School Reopening Series Event 1: "How Are the Children?" A Social Justice Town Hall

  • July 22, 2021
  • 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM

The last school year was one of the most difficult for many students and families. In addition to the challenges resulting from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, reckoning with racial justice issues and social inequities has extraordinarily affected the educational experiences of students throughout Georgia.

Youth and community advocates will convene to lead a discussion on race, ability, orientation, and other areas of social justice and how non-affirming school climates can impact student outcomes. The panel will also discuss ways schools and community organizations can collaborate to reduce educational biases and increase culturally appropriate responses in schools.

Community members in the audience will be provided space to join the panel in discussion throughout the evening.
